The 1935 Canadian Jubilee series is of unique interest to philatelists It portrays three Kings of England, all of whom occupied the throne in 1936 and a fourth who became heir apparent. The 13c. stamp is the only stamp picture of the Royal Yacht Britannia.
The Royal Yacht Britannia was built in 1893 by L.G. Watson to the order of King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales. It was used for racing between 1893 and 1897. In 1920 it was refitted for racing by King George V. He was extremely fond of the yacht , which in accordance with George V wishes after his death, was taken into the English Channel and scuttled.
Varieties
Two of the best known varieties are the 'weeping princess' which appears on the 1 cent stamp and the 'shilling' which occurs on the 13 cent stamp. Click on the images below to view the variety in greater depth.
