Mail from the British Solomon Islands to Scotland
The British Solomon Islands are located near Papua and New Guinea (see map). They are comprised of some 138 islands. Tulagi, an island just north of Gaudalcanal, was the administrative seat for the Solomon Islands Protectorate between 1893 and 1942, when it was destroyed by the invading Japanese army. It became fully independent as the Solomon Islands in 1978 with Honiara, on Gaudalcanal Island, as its capital.

The 1½d was used for postage to Empire countries. This letter was mailed from the Shortland Islands, which are located close to Papua. It was very unusual for letters to be mailed from places other than Tulagi.
