Foreign Mail from the British Solomon Islands
The British Solomon Islands are located near Papua and New Guinea (see map). They are comprised of some 138 islands. Tulagi, an island just north of Gaudacanal, was the administrative seat for the Solomon Islands Protectorate between 1893 and 1942, when it was destroyed by the invading Japanese army. It became fully independent as the Solomon Islands in 1978 with Honiara, on Gaudacanal Island, as its capital.
