First year of Airmail Service from Fiji to Great Britain
The Fiji islands lie on the 180 Meridian in the Southern Hemisphere (see map) and is made up of 300 islands. Approximately 100 of these are inhabited. In 1935 it had an estimated population of 183,00 people. Almost 80% of the population live on the two major islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Airmail service between Fiji and Great Britain, via Australia, was first introduced in 1935. This letter shows the correct rate 1/10½d (one shilling, ten and one half pence). In 1936 this rate was reduced to 1/7½d (one shilling, seven and one half pence).
