Bahamas to United States
The Bahamas are an archipelago of more than 700 islands located off the south eastern coast of the United States of America. Approximately 40 of the islands are populated. The Bahamas was claimed by Great Britain in 1629 and became independent in 1973. In 1935 its population was estimated at about 62,000.

Jubilee stamps: 1½d, 2½d, 6d, 1/-

Letter rates from the Bahamas were 1½d Empire mail, 2½d Foreign mail and 2d registered mail. This registered letter from Bimini (the closest of the Bahamian islands to the USA - some 48 miles) to Memphis, Tennessee shows 2d for registration and 1d postage on the embossed stamp and the additional 1½d postage required on the Silver Jubilee common design stamp from the Bahamas.

Registered Letter reclassified as a parcel

This registered letter sent from Gibraltar to Detroit, USA on September 10, 1935 was reclassified as a letter package. It required the recipient to pay an extra 10 cents.
