Straits Settlement letter posted at sea
This letter to the Dutch East Indies was posted at sea on board the SS Tasman. The cover is rare as very little mail was posted on board Dutch ships. The postage is correct.
The SS Tasman (5172 gross tonnes) was built by Earle & Co., Hull in 1922. It was owned by the Dutch Company KPM (Koninklijke Pakervaart Maatschappij) and sailed the Java-Australia and China-South Africa routes. It carried up to 96 passengers. It was broken up in 1958.
