Letter mailed at sea (Paquebot mail) from Seychelles to Switzerland
The term "Paquebot" was adopted by the Universal Postal Union in 1894. It is used to denote mail which has been posted on board a ship and taken ashore at the next port to be forwarded to its ultimate destination. A distinctive paquebot cancellation is used to cancel the letters as the covers usually bear the stamp of another country.
Seychelles Jubilee stamps: 6c, 12c, 20c, 1r.
This letter was mailed at sea en route from the Seychelles Islands (see map - A) and has a paquebot cancellation. It was subsequently mailed from the Bombay General Post Office (B) to Switzerland (C). This very rare item shows the correct postal rate.
