Diamond Harbour - March 23, 1935

Rocket mail cover with Stephen Smith's signature. Note special purple diamond shaped cachet. Commemorative labels were affixed and cancelled after the rocket landing. Covers were taken to the Post Office to be cancelled.

A total of 1500 commemorative labels were printed. After the flight 700 were destroyed. Of the 800 remaining, 31 had a double impression. Twenty of these 31 were used on covers.

Example of rocketgram fired from Sir Tashinamgyal field. Card also signed by Sir Tashinamgyal, the Maharaj of the State of Sikkim.
The commemorative label was printed directly onto the rocketgram.

Note: It appears as if there was an attempt to change the cancellation date on the label from April 9th to 8th (Only 6 covers were flown on April 8th and thus extremely rare). Stamps were cancelled on April 9th.
