Design and Development of the 1c stamp (Princess Elizabeth)

Princess Elizabeth was born on April 21,  1926. She ascended to the British throne following the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952. In 2002 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Golden Jubilee as Queen.

These scanned images show the various stages of the design and development of the 1c stamp. The stamp was designed by Herman Herbert Schwartz of the Canadian Bank Note Company. It was finished by Edwin H. Gunn and William F. Ford. The portrait was engraved by William Jung and the ornaments by Carol Maybie.
