This bisected stamp is cancelled on the last day of issue (December 31, 1935).
Michael Wigmore, who specialises in Southern Africa philately, notes the SJ 1d is part of a large collection and is known bisected vertically or diagonally, all on piece. They are cancelled variously Corn Exchange, Leribe, Morija, Mohaleshoek and Quthing. Some had an additional "½d" added in manuscript.
Because of the breadth of town "usage" he believes this indicates a contrivance rather than a provisional stamp born of localised necessity.
