Specimen Stamp issued to Crown Colonies on December 5, 1934
The following extract of a letter from the Crown Agents to Waterlows (November 2, 1934) provides some background information on the Specimen Proof Stamp which was issued in brown and blue colour to the Colonies on December 5.
"With reference to your letter of the 26th October, I have to inform you that your offer to supply 50 leaflets containing one colour proof only is accepted at a cost of £8.2.6d., this amount to be equally apportioned among all the Colonial Governments concerned. The leaflet (which is to be folded) is to be without printing and the proofs are to be mounted on the righthand side. You should proceed with the preparation of these as soon as you receive notification that the colour proofs have been approved by His Majesty. The proofs are to be pulled in the colours of the approved design (duty blank) and the word “specimen” inscribed in the position where the names of the Colonies are to appear."
