The numbers and types of varieties found amongst the Silver Jubilee stamps continues to grow. Some occur very frequently, others rarely. Cooper and Ainscough, as well as many others, have produced listings that are used by most collectors. In order to help people work through the listings I have developed the following classification. It is based on a pragmatic approach and is very arbitrary. For Type A varieties I used the Stanley Gibbons catalogue and Ainscough's book as the starting point. As people have written more about the various varieties listed as Types B, C and D, I have moved them "up the scale." Please note that the varieties classification system applies only to the Common Design stamps.
